As you may or not be aware, last month BMW took the wraps off their new 1 Series Coupe, a new, sportier version of their entry-level 1 Series hatchback. To combat the new model, rumor has it Mercedes is prepping a new entry level coupe as well - a coupe which is said to be titled the "BLK."

Although the only info I was able to find on Auto Bild (the source of the rumor) was the photo above, I would assume by their choice of moninkers the German publication is speculating the BLK would be built on the B-Class platform. The immediate question I have however, is why Mercedes would develop a coupe based on the B-Class as opposed to simply updating the C-Class Sports Coupe.  They could drop the C Sports Coupe and build a B-Series Coupe, but converting the newly-redesigned 2008 C-Class into coupe form to me at least seems the more logical move.
