DaimlerChrysler Thailand has announced today that they will be auctioning off 25 Mercedes models used by world royalty last month during the 60th anniversary celebration for their king's accession to the throne.
The auction, which is scheduled to be held July 23 at Bangkok's Queen Sirikit Convention Center, is being conducted by international auctioneer Christies, with proceeds from the event going to benefit royal charities.
According to DaimlerChrysler Thailand spokesman Chatvithai Tantrapornn: "Everything above the reserve prices will proceed to the king." Reserve prices range from 3.3 million baht ($79,270) for E-Class Mercedes Benz models to 10.5 million ($277,410) for the S-Class cars.
Thailand, a constitutional monarchy where the king is head of state, has held similar celebrations in the past; this year, however, marked the first year its government invited world monarchs to attend. Attendees included royals and their representatives from Bahrain, Belgium, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Denmark, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Morocco, the Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Qatar, Spain, Swaziland, Sweden, Tonga, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
