I ran across this story over at Jalopnik yesterday and it completely slipped my mind, but have no fear, my Alzheimer's medication is kicking in and I'm bringining it to you now.
In the August issue of Automobile magazine, further speculation is added to an article first published by AutoBild, which stated that Mercedes' AMG division is developing a new SL Gullwing. According to the latest Automobile, the new Gullwing will feature a 750 horsepower 6.3-Liter V8 with the prerequisite pair of turbos, linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, as well as mechanical suspension (meaning no air springs). It will apparently be slotted above the SL65 AMG, and will make its debut in 2011.
As I stated when AutoBild first ran the story, I'm not holding my breath. Reinventing a car that many Mercedes enthusiasts already consider to be perfect should be the last thing on Mercedes' "To-Do" list.
We'll keep you posted if we hear anything new.
