Mercedes-Benz "Writing Instruments" At Fashion Week Berlin 2008

The new Mercedes-Benz CLC isn't the only member of the Mercedes-Benz family making its debut at Fashion Week Berlin 2008.  Also being presented at the event is the new Mercedes-Benz "Writing Instruments" collection, the result of a collaboration between Mercedes and Italian pen manufacturer Aquila Brands S.p.A.

Comprised of a fountain pen, a rollerball, a ballpoint and a propelling pencil, the Mercedes Writing Instruments collection "combines timeless design and contemporary styling elements with top quality and perfect craftsmanship."   Each item in the collection is hand assembled and available in your choice of four metallic colors - obsidian black, iridium silver, tanzanite blue and chablis - with other features including tough-yet-lightweight aluminum barrels and screwcaps, clips featuring the Mercedes star emblem, and the name "Mercedes-Benz" laser engraved on each cap's ring...

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen; I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.  As promised, Mercedes yesterday unveiled to the world their newest coupe, titled, the CLC, at their own Fashion Week Berlin 2008.  To celebrate the launch, Mercedes has published a comprehensive press kit covering the new model, with virtually every aspect of the CLC detailed for your reading entertainment.

If you're a regular reader of our website, you've undoubtedly heard of the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studio in Como, Italy.  One of three Advanced Design Studios employed by the company (the other two being in Irvine/USA and Yokohama/Japan), the Como studio has played in integral role in the interior design of a number of Mercedes' vehicles, including the F 400 Carving, the Vision GST, the F 500 Mind, the F 600 HYGENIUS, the F 700 and the new S-Class.

Mark Your Calendars: New Mercedes-Benz Actros On Sale January 28th

At the Mercedes-Benz truck plant in Wörth, Andreas Renschler, member of the Board of Management responsible for Daimler Trucks, and Hubertus Troska, Head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Europe/Latin America, recently allowed a sneak peak of the new Actros.

Set to go on sale January the 28th, the now third-generation Actros boasts a total of 37 individual measures to perfect its economy, comfort and design. According to Andreas Renschler:  "The new Actros documents the leadership claim of Mercedes-Benz and its flagship truck. This has been the trendsetter in its sector since it was introduced in 1996, and the most successful model in the heavy-duty truck sector with sales of 550,000 units in more than 100 countries..."

The 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class wins Wheels Car of the Year Award

Further highlighting the unquestionable success of the new Mercedes C-Class, Australia's Wheels magazine has just awarded the model their annual "Car of the Year 2007" award.  Chosen over 20 other models after a week-long testing program, the C stood apart from its competitors thanks to "its impressive combination of standard safety features, well-judged electronic driver aids, excellent dynamic ability, ride comfort, build quality and attractive design."  Other finalists for the award included the Ford Mondeo, the Mazda 2, the Volkswagen Eos and the BMW M3...

Although Mercedes has yet to offically publish the details of the 2009 SL-Class, they did take a moment to meet with select members of the press to discuss the forthcoming models, allowing you, via a third party, to learn of the various changes incorporated on the new roadster.  

First up to detail the invite-only event is none other than Inside Line, who yesterday published a rather verbose article describing what to expect from the next SL.  Rather than forcing you to wade through their entire article, however, I've taken it upon myself to list just the model revisions; allowing those of you who value your time a quick and easy means to discover what it took Inside Line 17 paragraphs to express.

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Extends Lewis Hamilton's Contract

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes has today extended Lewis Hamilton’s contract with the team for a further five years. The new agreement, which starts for 2008, will run up to and including the 2012 season.

RON DENNIS, CEO AND CHAIRMAN, McLAREN GROUP:

“We are pleased to announce that we have extended our contract with Lewis, which will now run for a further five years until 2012. Following our initial Formula 1 agreement with Lewis, which we announced in November 2006, he went on to exceed all expectations for a rookie in Formula 1, even those of us in the team who have known him for over a decade. ADAC Award "Yellow Angel 2008": The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Is Germany’s Favourite Car

Stuttgart – The Mercedes-Benz C-Class has emerged the winner of Germany’s largest vote for the most popular car by a wide margin. Accordingly the motoring organisation ADAC has presented its sought-after "Yellow Angel 2008" award to this Stuttgart-made public favourite.

The "Yellow Angel" awards, which the ADAC presents annually for outstanding performance, are named after the nickname given to the ADAC’s friendly breakdown service personnel and are among Europe’s most sought-after motoring awards. Consumers find them a valuable decision-making guide, as criteria such as price/performance ratio, practicality, economy, safety and environmental compatibility also play a part in the selection process...

Mercedes-Benz Cars Posts Best Sales Year In Company's History

Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and smart logosToday, the second round of financials are in, with Daimler reporting that worldwide sales at the Mercedes-Benz Cars division have reached an all-time high - up 2.0 percent in 2007 to the total of 1,285,900 new units.  Worldwide sales of the Mercedes-Benz brand fared even better, jumping 3.2 percent for the year to 1,185,300 new units; while smart continued making progress, finishing up the year with sales of 100,600 units - down 10.3 percent when compared to the prior year.

Across the globe, Mercedes-Benz managed to increase its market share in nearly every key region.  In the U.S., sales rose two percent for the year; in the Asia/Pacific region, sales jumped an impressive 12 percent; and in Western Europe, sales improved three percent, due to record setting deliveries in France, Italy and Spain.  Models contributing to the success include the C-Class, with sales of the sedan rising 16 percent for the year to 386,500 units; as well as the S-Class, which continued its impressive performance in the luxury sedan segment with 85,500 units sold...
