Exterior views of the 2007 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, 2007 Audi S6 and 2007 BMW M5

While going through inbox this afternoon an astute reader by the name of Kelton directed us to the latest comparison review conducted by Motor Trend - one which analyzes once again the three leaders in the high-horsepowered, mid-sized segment:  the 2007 Mercedes E63 AMG; the 2007 BMW M5; and the 2007 Audi S6.

Coming off two prior victories in the exact same Automobile and Car and Driver comparisons, one would expect the E63 to perform admirably, ranking at or at least very near the top of the trio.  Holding this assumption would be inaccurate however, due to the fact that Motor Trend ranked the E63 last among the vehicles tested...

The Incorrect Way To Parallel Park Your Mercedes CLK
Posted January 31st, 2007 At 11:45 AM CST

Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class crashed into posts, front and side view

In a recent study conducted by an unnamed driver, it's been discovered that water, when placed on a driving surface at temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, actually decreases the amount of traction a vehicle is able to maintain when traveling on said surface.

While the findings from the study are still awaiting approval by an independent third party, these photos clearly appear to indicate the driver's remarkable deduction is indeed accurate...

For those of you who like to stay up-to-date on the sales of each of DaimlerChrysler's many divisions, the company has announced today that in 2006, sales of the Mercedes-Benz Van division totaled 256,895 units, down slightly from 2005's sales of 267,245 units.  In Germany, sales totaled 67,309 units, again down slightly from 2005's sales of 70,958 new units.

As for how individual models fared, sales across the board remained relatively consistent. The Sprinter, which celebrated a new model changeover in 2006, achieved sales of 157,212 units (compared to 163,677 in 2005), an impressive fact considering the steep start-up curve associated with producing a new model; the Vito/Viano series continued to boast strong numbers, with the models noting sales of 94,051 units; and the Vario, recently made available with a BLUETEC diesel powerplant, noted sales of 4,706 units, a 1% decrease when compared to the previous year...

In awards news, Mercedes was recently the recipient of two prestigious accolades in recognition of their work in the commercial vehicle segment.  The first, a "Yellow Angel" award presented by ADAC, was given to Mercedes in the "Innovation" category, after a jury consisting of ADAC committee members and representatives of industrial associations decided the company's "Active Brake Assist" represented the most significant achievement in the aforementioned category.

The second, a "Safety Award" presented at the Brussels Commercial Vehicle Show by the Belgian Association of Automotive and Commercial Vehicle Journalists, was given to Mercedes as a result of being the vehicle manufacturer responsible for the greatest advance in development in the field of vehicle safety, in recognition of Mercedes' Active Brake Assist and Actros Safety Truck...

Spy photo showcasing the 2008 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG testing on the autobahn

When it was unveiled only a week-and-a-half ago, there was one model - much to the dismay of power whores everywhere - that was sorely absent from the 2008 Mercedes C-Class lineup.  The variant of which I speak is of course the C63 AMG, a model which despite still not officially confirmed by Mercedes, will likely be announced in the near future.

To make the pains of waiting for the potential M3-slayer a little easier, our good friend and fellow automotive enthusiast Vincent over at Autoblog.nl recently posted a video he captured while traversing the autobahn - one which depicts not one but two C63 AMG's taking part in some real world testing.  As you'll see in the videos, the C63's appearance looks exactly as you'd expect an AMG V8-powered C-Class to look. AMG body accents with appropriate venting; quad tailpipes; but overall, not many exterior changes over the standard AMG-clad C-Class...

While going through our inbox this early afternoon an astute reader by the name of Derek directed us to a recent video published by CNN - one which showcases Fortune magazine's Sue Callaway test driving the impeccable Maybach Exelero.

Although the video doesn't showcase Callaway terrorizing LA's streets at anywhere near the Exelero's full potential, any video depicting a car that cost roughly $8 million to create is still entertaining, regardless of whether it's going 20 or 200 miles per hour...
