Taking a break from the day's Detroit Auto Show coverage, our friend Brad directed us to a recent review conducted by Road & Track - one which looks at arguably the most covetable tuner Mercedes-Benz S-Class model in existence: the Brabus SV12 S Biturbo.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Brabus SV12 S, it truly is an exquisite creature. Boasting a 6.3 Liter, 730 horsepower V12 powerplant, the Brabus-tuned Merc is capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in just 4.0 seconds and attaining a top speed of 211 mph. As for the reviewer's sentiments, they seem to echo Brabus' performance claims:
| "It’s obvious that there’s something wicked about the engine as soon as you hear the exhaust note. The company’s custom exhaust system gives the car a deep growl that induces the driver to punch the throttle pedal. On the third mile of my test drive, I succumbed, and let the big, bad Benz fly. The initial forward thrust is breathtaking (literally), as the Michelin rear tires bite the driving surface and launch the 5000-lb. car forward like a jet fighter. There is no point on the tachometer where the power kicks in — the acceleration is constant and steep, from zero all the way until you lift." |
Of course, with power comes a price. The Brabus SV12 S tested, owned by Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia, costs in the neighborhood of $350,000. Not monumental by the standards of some royalty, but for the rest of us, a rather significant price tag.
To learn more about the Brabus SV12 S and how it fared at the hands of a automotive journalist, head over Road & Track where you can find the review in its entirety.
And to Brad: thanks for the tip my good sir; we truly appreciate it.
