As part of the company's ongoing engine developments, aerodynamic production principles and use of lightweight construction methods, Mercedes has announced today that the 2008 C-Class throughout its life span will consume up to 17 percent less fuel than the previous generation C-Class as well as produce 15 percent less carbon dioxide emissions. In addition, the new C also manages to drastically reduce both nitrogen oxide emissions and hydrocarbons, with each noting reductions of 20 percent and 12 percent throughout their life span, respectively...

| Less Drag And Better Visibility: New Mercedes C-Class Adds Two New Patented Technologies To Improve Aerodynamics |

When the 2008 Mercedes C-Class hits the market later this year, featured on it will be two patented new components that bring "significant aerodynamic advantages" to the new model, both of which help make the C the most "aerodynamically efficient notchback saloon in its market segment."
The first technology, ventilated tail lights, have been implemented to replace conventional spoiler lips and help direct air flow along the side of the vehicle. The lights, which are hermetically sealed against the vehicle, function by taking air sucked from the underbody and forcing it through ventilating slits. Without them, the slipstream would be conducted behind the rear of the vehicle at the tail lights, resulting in unfavorable turbulences which negatively impact air resistance, rear axle lift and yaw characteristics...

| Mercedes Car Group's January Sales Increase Seven Percent To 77,700 Units |

In financial news, the Mercedes Car Group is reporting that for the month of January, worldwide sales of the Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and smart brands have increased seven percent to 77,700 units. The growth was fueled solely by the Mercedes-Benz brand, with the luxury automaker noting a 13.9 percent increase in January's worldwide sales figures to 73,500 units.
As for what attributed to MB's tremendous success, sales of the S-Class and E-Class were particularly strong in January, with the latter noting sales of 15,600 units - an increase of 13.6 percent over 2006. The Mercedes-Benz SUV lineup has also continued to post strong sales numbers, with sales of the M-, R-, GL- and G-Class totaling 12,400 new units last month - an increase over January 2006 of 33 percent...

To kick things off this morning, DaimlerChrysler has taken a moment to publish a press kit taking a look back at the Mercedes-Benz brand's illustrious history in the field of research, starting with the company's decision to create their own research unit in the late 60's. In addition, Daimler has also included a unique photo collection which showcases various technologies conceived by MB's research unit, some of which include a 1975 Mercedes L 307 van powered by a hydrogen propulsion system and a Mercedes city bus powered by a natural gas propulsion system...
