In an article published today, the Detroit Free Press is the latest to weigh in on the 2007 Mercedes CL-Class, offering their insight as to whether or not the new coupe is worth its roughly $100,000 price tag.

As for their conclusion, the reviewer determined that although the CL is a "good car", the competition it faces from both the S-Class and CLS-Class detract from the model's overall appeal.

While I agree that both the S and CLS are superb  model ranges, implying that either detracts from the CL is, in my opinion, simply ludicrous.  If you're of the type that prefers two doors over four, the CL is without a doubt equal in stature to the S-Class and offers what I would expect to be a nearly identical driving experience.  As for the CLS, few if any consumers deliberate between this and the CL; it instead offers those considering the E-Class a somewhat more aggressive option over its more traditional counterpart (much like the CL offers potential S-Class customers).

But enough commentary... now that you know my thoughts on the matter, head over to the Detroit Free Press and judge for yourself.
