FIA Awards Mercedes-Benz E320 CDI For Record Drive

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, or simply, the FIA, has recently awarded Mercedes-Benz for their record 100,000 mile drive that took place earlier this year.

The record drive launched the career of the new Mercedes V6 CDI diesel engine, which replaced the previous five and six-cylinder in line engines in the summer of 2005.  After mounting the new 165kW/224 hp engine in three standard E320 CDI models, drivers covered distances of 100,000 kilometers (average speed: 140.37mph), 50,000 miles (average speed: 140.09mph) and 100,000 miles (average speed: 139.70) in world record time...

If you just can't get enough of the new Mercedes GL, you're in luck my dear readers.

DaimlerChrysler has published another press release today detailing more specifics of their upcoming biggie-sized SUV.

The most notable things the new press release makes mention of are the new powerplants we can expect to see in the GL.

To begin with, the GL will come with your choice of two diesel variants, a 224 horsepower V6 that can be found in the GL 320 CDI model, as well as a 306 horsepower V8 found in the GL 420 CDI model...

We've brought you spy shots, we've brought you rumors - today, it's official.  Mercedes has announced details of the latest contender in the American-dominated mega-SUV market.

The challenger?  Dubbed the Mercedes GL-Class, it's a 200" long, 75.6" wide, 72.4" tall SUV that features seating for seven (and walnut accents).

When it debuts, the new GL will feature a 4.6-Liter V8 engine pumping out 335 horsepower, paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission, 4MATIC full-time all wheel drive, and four-wheel independent suspension...

I happened upon this story yesterday, and I completely forgot to make mention of it.

A while back, we told you that despite rumors that the upcoming GL-Class would replace the G-Class, Mercedes instead opted to keep producing the tried and tested G-Wagon in addition to any future GL models.

Rumors began circulating yesterday that in addition to keeping the G-Class, Mercedes may be updating the G-Class' exterior and interior styling as well...

Our friends over at AutoSpies.com are reporting today about an S350 CDi being tested in the United States.

Is this a hint that we can expect to see the model introduced in the U.S. market in the near future?

It's difficult to say. The hybrid S-Class has been seen testing in the United States, as well as the B-Class.  So far, we haven't even heard rumors these cars will released here, and with the hybrid S-Class, anywhere for that matter...

Mercedes Car Group Posts Best Ever Sales In November

The title says it all.  Despite somewhat sluggish sales for the Mercedes Car Group in the United States last month, sales of the Mercedes Car Group worldwide didn't fare quite so poorly.

For the month of November, sales of the Mercedes Car Group worldwide rose 1.6% to a record high of 105,200 units, compared to 103,500 last year. Worldwide year-to-date sales for the Mercedes Car Group are also up, increasing 1.2% with 1,094,500 units being sold, compared to 1,081,200 units in 2004...
