If I Wasn't Rapping Baby I Would Still Be Ridin' Mercedes

Mercedes-Benz R-Class With Giovanna Wheels

As somewhat of a hip-hop enthusiast myself, it's no surprise to hear that Mercedes was the most rapped about brand in 2005.

According to Agenda Inc., a San Francisco-based marketing firm, Mercedes took top honours with 100 mentions, while Nike came in a distant second with 63 hits.  Other notable brands:  Cadillac, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Hennessy, Cristal, and of course, the always illustrious AK-47.

Also, it is worth pointing out: pistol-maker Berretta was this year's biggest gainer taking the number 13 spot, although I'm more of Glock man myself.

If you're wondering how the study worked, Agenda Inc. calculates the numbers based on rap songs that made it to the Billboard charts.  Of the rap songs on the list, 35% contained product references, which is a 5% from last year.

Personally, I think a study of the "Most Mentioned Brand" is mildly interesting, but everyone knows the real joys of rap music are the illicit references to women's posteriors.  That's why, I'm moving to nominate a new category for next year's study, entitled "Most Notable New Reference to a Female's Ass."

To get the ball rolling, I will begin by selecting my pick for the 2005 Most Notable New Reference to a Female's Ass. The award goes to, drum roll please...  D4L, whose lyrics set a new benchmark by which all slang references to female's asses will now be judged:

"Girl shake that Laffy Taffy, that Laffy Taffy girl, shake that Laffy Taffy, that Laffy Taffy girl..."

That's classic ladies and gentlemen.
