| eMercedesBenz Feature: The Supercharged Cars Of Mercedes-Benz In The 1920s And 1930s |
| Posted August 19, 2008 At 10:20 AM CST by T. Philips |

|
|

It was a distinction to be able to drive such a car: in the 1920s and 1930s, the supercharged cars from Mercedes-Benz and the predecessor brand Mercedes eclipsed all the powerful and refined cars that had existed until then. They launched a new era in automotive engineering. Captains of industry and politicians, artists and sports men and women – the people driving supercharged Mercedes cars in those days opted for an image of savoir vivre and dynamism, for the most advanced engineering and the most refined design. In short, for the best cars in the world.
Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) used the valuable experience gained with the supercharging of aircraft engines for boosting the power of vehicle engines for the first time after World War I – and a new performance category was born. The first supercharged Mercedes models were displayed at the Berlin Motor Show in 1921 and caused quite a stir among automotive experts. Racing cars were equally equipped with superchargers, and in April 1922, Max Sailer won the production car class of the Targa Florio at the wheel of a supercharged 28/95 hp Mercedes...

| The 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Featured In Auto Bild |

Although rumor still has it the 2010 Mercedes E-Class won't be making its debut until the International Auto Show in Frankfurt next year, that hasn't stopped Auto Bild from showcasing the model in their newest publication. In the article, the model is displayed from a number of different angles, all without the masking that up until now it's been adorned with.
Before you get too excited, however, I do have to note that despite their quality, the photos aren't actually photos... they're instead
high quality renderings showing an approximation of what the 2010 Mercedes E-Class will look like. Nevertheless, when compared to prior spy shots, the renderings do a commendable job at replicating the visible lines of the model, meaning the final product shouldn't be too far off from what's pictured before you...

Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG (via car)
Reviewer's rating:
"Say what you will about the SLK’s recent facelift, which marks the halfway point in the life of the second generation, but there’s no getting away from the 55 AMG’s menacing presence – our glossy black test car looked both intimidating and understated. The intelligently configured and bank-vault solid cabin is still a lesson in ergonomic clarity. And then there’s that massive 5439cc V8 stuffed into the nose..."

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, Actros and “Fintail” models have all made a name for themselves as fictional heroes as well as top performers in real life. Over recent decades, comic-books have offered a fascinating slant on the history of the Mercedes-Benz brand. Indeed, a Mercedes appeared in the first ever “Tintin” book, published in 1929, since when numerous albums and series have inadvertently helped compile an illustrated encyclopedia of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. From exquisite vintage models to dependable taxis, elegant sports cars to prestige sedans, the qualities of the Stuttgart-based manufacturer have been high
lighted in a variety of comics. Some the stuff of enthusiasts’ dreams, others an integral feature of everyday life, Mercedes automobiles have become ingrained in the psyche and landscape of both real-life cities such as Brussels and fictional towns like Duckburg...

For those of you currently pondering whether or not the Mercedes-Benz CLC Sport Coupe is worth your hard-earned income, a pair of reviews analyzing the new model have been published recently that aim to shed some light on this very subject. As is the case with all our Mercedes Review Roundup installments, you can find an excerpt from the first review below as well as the complete collection of articles immediately after the jump.
Mercedes-Benz CLC Sports Coupe (via CarsGuide)
Reviewer's rating: Unspecified
"It may look like the current award winning C Class, but the CLC sits on a seven-year-old chassis of the previous and smaller C-Class. Will buyers care? Probably not because the older C-Class wasn't such a bad thing apart from its dated and hard riding suspension. So forget the underpinnings; this latest CLC has been cleverly honed into a very likable, very driveable and desirable made-in-Brazil mousetrap..."

| eMercedesBenz Feature: The Mercedes-Benz L 319 Makes World Premier In 1955 |

The German soccer champion is Rot-Weiß Essen, the German chancellor rides in a Mercedes-Benz car named “Adenauer”. The year is 1955, and the “economic miracle”, initiated by Federal Minister of Economics, Ludwig Erhardt, and the social market economy propagated by him, calls for new means of transport. In response to this, one of the vehicles launched into the market was the Mercedes-Benz L 319. The first van with the three-pointed star – called express truck at the time – celebrated its premiere at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September. It was the precursor of numerous, successful generations of Mercedes-Benz vans, through to the current Sprinter, Vito and Vario series...

| Mercedes-Benz To Introduce Attention Assist Into Series Production In Spring 2009 |
| Posted August 11, 2008 At 9:55 AM CST by T. Philips |
|
|
|

It's been nearly three years since we first told you about a new warning system being developed by Mercedes aimed at combating driver fatigue and the occurrence of falling asleep behind the wheel. Today, the company has announced the technology - officially titled "Attention Assist" - is ready for series production, with the system set to debut on Mercedes models starting in spring 2009.
If you missed our prior coverage of Attention Assist, here again is a quick summary of how the system operates. To begin, Attention Assist works by first observing a driver's behaviors, and then using this information to create a unique driver profile. During operation, a series of tests continually monitor driver input in relation to this profile, and in the event a deviation is encountered, the system then determines whether or not the deviation is a result of fatigue. If it is, Attention Assist alerts the driver both visually and audibly that it's time to take a break...

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen; I hope you all had a splendid weekend and caught some of the fantastic Olympic action taking place over the weekend. Kicking things off this morning comes a fresh batch of Mercedes reviews that analyze the Mercedes GLK350 and C200K Estate. In total, there's three articles dedicated to the models, so if you're in the market for either, you'll now have an even better idea of what to expect from each. As is the case with each and every one of our Mercedes Review Roundup installments, you can find an excerpt from the first review below as well as the full collection of articles immediately after the jump.
Mercedes-Benz GLK350 (via Popular Mechanics)
Reviewer's rating: Unspecified
"Well, let's give you the not-so-good news right up front. For such a small crossover, the fuel economy on the GLK isn't exactly best in class. Despite help from a seven-speed automatic, the 4036 pound GLK350's 3.5-liter 268 hp 24-valve aluminum V6's EPA fuel mileage is estimated at just 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. BMW's 3.0-liter X3 isn't much better at 17 city and 24 highway, and the Q5 puts up nearly identical numbers. A Bluetec diesel GLK is rumored for late '09 introduction. In this fuel price environment, it can't come soon enough..."

| Mercedes-Benz Convertible Models Off To Good Summer Sales Start |
| Posted August 8, 2008 At 10:30 AM CST by T. Philips |
|
|
|

Basking in the glory of their sales success, Mercedes has announced today they've gotten off to a good start in the 2008 "convertible season." Take, for example, the current SL-Class (now in its fifth generation). To date, 145,000 customers have opted for the luxury roadster, with more than 8,000 SL's delivered this year alone. Of these, half are headed for the U.S., with the SL 500 being the most popular variant chosen.
Not to be outdone by its larger sibling, the Mercedes SLK-Class continues to note tremendous success with customers as well, particularly in its home market of Germany. Since its introduction in March 2004, approximately 200,000 units of the
SLK have been delivered, with some 20,000 customers opting for the SLK-Class just this year (one-third of which are German bound). As a result, on its home soil, the SLK has managed to defend its position as market leader in its distinctive segment...
