In awards news, the new Mercedes-Benz James Cook Westfailia Sprinter was recently named the recipient of the "Caravanning design award: best practice" at the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf 2006.

The jury of experts, made up of Adi Kemmer, Head of the Outdoor and Leisure Division at Motor Presse Stuttgart; Tom Schönherr, Managing Director at Phoenix Design; Thomas Seidelmann, Editor-in-Chief at "Reisemobil International"; and Professor Peter Zec, Head of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen and President of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid); awarded the coveted Quality Seal to 12 products in all, all of which demonstrated meticulous design and an innovative approach...

São Paulo, Brazil Placed Major Order For Mercedes-Benz Bus Chassis

Daimler Chrysler Black And White LogoFor those of you who stay up-to-date on Mercedes' bus division, Daimler Chrysler is reporting today that they have sold 1,055 Mercedes-Benz urban bus chassis to public transport companies operating in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. 

The order, comprised of 750 models of the rear engine 13.2 meter chassis and 305 units of the recently launched 18 meter articulated chassis, is the largest ever recorded sale for the Mercedes's articulated bus chassis in Latin America...

Worldwide Mercedes Çar Group Sales Up Two Percent In July

To kick things off this morning DaimlerChrysler has released worldwide sales figures for the Mercedes Car Group.  In total, sales of the Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and smart brands amounted to 102,300 units, an increase of approximately two percent over the previous year.  This brings the Mercedes Car Group's year-to-date sales total to a record 729,600 units, an increase of eight percent over the first seven months of 2005.

Upon arriving at the office this morning I was greeted with a plethora of press releases detailing several new additions to the Mercedes R-Class family. While I could discuss at length each of the press releases, in the interest of getting the stories out in a timely fashion I instead will try to keep my banter as short as possible, hopefully while maintaining my trademark charm and charisma.

Now that that's out of the way, let get into the first of several R-Class articles, shall we?

To kick things off, we have a quick overview of the fall R-Class lineup, or more specifically, the two new additions to the R-Class family. For the legions of power-loving soccer moms scattered across the globe, the most notable addition to the R-Class family will undoubtedly be the R63 AMG. Powered by a 6.3-Liter 375 kW / 510 hp AMG V8, the R63 is capable of achieving a 0-62 mph time of only 5.0 seconds, fast enough to teach those Honda Odyssey driving hussies that indeed, your husband is more successful than theirs...

Mercedes-Benz USA Notes 3.8 Percent Increase In July Sales

Today marked the start of a new month, and as by now I'm sure you all know, that can only mean one thing - it's time for some fun-filled financial news.

First up, as is always the case, come the sales figures for our very own Mercedes-Benz USA. For the month of July, the division noted sales of 21,591 new vehicles, an increase of 3.8% over July 2005. This figure brings MBUSA's year-to-date sales to 136,526 units sold, a 14.3% increase over 2005's YTD and the highest ever in the company's history...
