Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape Music Magazine

If you're looking for a way to fill the few remaining gigs on your shiny new iPod (or any other MP3 player), Mercedes has launched the latest in a long line of Mixed Tapes.  Available from now until June 26th, the Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape 20 features 10 handpicked new tracks from various up-and-coming international artists, all procurable via free download.   Highlights include Malinn's "Stars," Aless' "Tru Luv," Reggie B's "Like a Dream" and Notic Nastic's "Party Lights.

In addition, accompanying the latest Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape is the third installment of the Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape Music Magazine on Mercedes-Benz.tv.  In this month's episode, "Modern Folk" is the theme, with Brazilian singer Cibelle's "Green Grass," the catchy sounds of Australian Fi Claus' "Please Please Please" and an exclusive interview with Norway’s finest Maria Mena just some of the features found in this month's episode.

For more info, you can check out either the Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape or the Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape Music Magazine at Mercedes-Benz.tv, or learn more about both in the official press release below.

Enjoy.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape 20 and a new edition of Mixed Tape Music Magazine are now online

The wait is over! Mixed Tape 20 presents a brand new collection of smoking hot sounds, available as a free download compilation. Until June 26th 2008, our site will host 10 brand new tracks by international newcomers to explore and enjoy wherever you like – check out www.mercedes-benz.com/mixedtape for your personal copy.

Here, Mercedes-Benz not only presents ten handpicked tracks by international newcomers for you to check out and explore every eight weeks. Every month - now for the third time - this platform gives you Mixed Tape Music Magazine, an innovative online TV show featuring audiovisual highlights from around the world.

This month’s theme is Modern Folk, a classic sound that’s very now. All around us, men and women are dusting off their guitars to play heart-wrenching tunes of love and loss.

But all’s not acoustic in the land of folk – their traditional sounds have travelled the world to meet Pop, Jazz and the latest electronic sounds. An updated mix of old and new, this is what Modern Folk is all about!

Timeless and very now, Mixed Tape presents some of the best examples: Brazilian singer Cibelle with ‘Green Grass’, Nelson Poket’s ode to the joy of fatherhood, Australia’s Fi Claus with the catchy sounds of ‘Please Please Please’, Norway’s finest Maria Mena with an exclusive interview, the gentle Bossa Folk of Malaysian band Estrella and a back-to-the-future classic – Bob Dylan reworked by award-winning producer Mark Ronson.

Some of the highlights featured on Mixed Tape 20:

Malinn – Stars
First up, let your dreams roam with openers Malinn and their cosmic ‚Stars‘. Combining electronic beats with jazzy improvisations, “Malinn are like 548 696 albums rolled into one band”, so their website www.malinn.de claims – click clock, here they come …

Aless – Tru Luv
Southern German soul singer Aless can trace her roots back to sunny Sicily. Honing her voice in the local church choir, she recently won her hometown of Stuttgart’s song writing competition. And deservedly so – check out her R&B gem ‘Tru Luv’ for a taste of her talents, a close collaboration with Konstantinos Mintsoudis and Dimitrios Zlatoudis, otherwise known as the Griggaz!

Reggie B – Like a Dream
'Like A Dream’ sings Reggie B – a fitting description for the track’s psychedelic sounds and feel. Add a hint of Earth, Wind & Fire and you get the Californian singer-songwriter, producer and MC’s trademark DIY sound. A true family man, Reggie’s track also features cousin Arnie Bryant on saxophone for a dreamy escape into home-produced bliss.

Notic Nastic – Party Lights
Mysterious to the core, the people behind Notic Nastic prefer to remain anonymous. This much they will reveal: They hail from New York and Eastern Europe, live in Berlin and always perform with fluorescent masks – in total darkness, naturally. Far less furtive than its creators, their ‘freaked out deep down Pop’ sound comes laced with a healthy dose of heart and honesty. Check out ‘Party Lights’ for a jolt of their aural magic!

Edseven – Too Much Talk
In his hometown of Sydney, Australia, Edseven counts among the city’s premier freestyle selectors. Take a sprinkling of Sun-Ra and D’Angelo, stir in some Pete Rock and MF Doom and shake with hard-hitting Hip-Hop beats for tasty treats like Edseven’s current single ‘Too Much Talk’. Featuring additional rhymes by Mapei, this sound would be equally at home between Stockholm and Bushwick.
