Mercedes-Benz Review Roundup Part Two:  C-Class, CLK63 AMG, SLK350, R280, CLS-Class And More Tested
Posted April 2, 2008 At 2:30 PM CST

Exterior views of the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, CLK63 AMG Black Series, R280 CDI and CLS-Class

It took a little longer than expected, but as promised, we're proud to present part two of our Review Roundup installment.  In this replete episode, a total of six Mercedes classes are put through their paces, with the C63 AMG, the C350 Estate, the C220 CDI Estate, the CLK63 AMG Black Series, the R280 CDI and the new SLK350 being just some of the models tested.

As always, you can find links to each review along with a tidy description of each immediately below.

Enjoy.

Mercedes C63 AMG - Drive.com.au is on hand for the Australian launch of the AMG-laden C-Class at Bathurst's Mount Panorama, noting that it was a "agile, stable and safe car that felt reassuring to drive on arguably the country's most demanding loop of bitumen."

Mercedes C63 AMG - CarsGuide.com.au provides a second rather lengthy (and exceptionally choppy) look at the Australian launch of the C63, stating its "the most together AMG there has ever been" and describing it as "an effortless yet razor sharp pocket rocket."

Mercedes C63 AMG - Inside Line provides a well-written comparison pitting the C63 against its rival, the BMW M3, with the reviewer noting the C "brings a range of dynamic talents to the table that has been missing in previous AMG models" before ultimately giving the nod to the M3 due to the fact it "does so many things so damned well."

Mercedes C-Class - The Wall Street Journal provides an inane look at the new C-Class, contradicting the sentiments felt by nearly every other publication that's reviewed the model by criticizing it virtually across the board.  I'd defend the C-Class, but the article is laden with so many absurdities I don't know where to begin.

Mercedes C350 Estate - AutoCar outlines briefly what to expect from the new C-Class Wagon, stating that "the bigger load area and more appealing design of the Mercedes just about justifies the £1740 premium it will cost you over an automatic 330i Touring M Sport" but recommending customers also consider the forthcoming CGI variant.

Mercedes C220 CDI Estate - Fifth Gear provides another look at the new C-Class Estate, this time the diesel C220 variant, finding that the model "offers top-flight comfort, luxury and spaciousness" before rating it four out of five stars.

Mercedes CLK63 AMG Black Series - Channel 4 spends some time with the CLK Black Series, concluding that the model "stuns in its performance and usability" before rating it four out of a possible five stars.

Mercedes CLK63 AMG Black Series - CarPoint.com.au offers another look at the new CLK Black, calling it "a riot" that delivers "the sort of razor-sharp turn-in racetracks demand" before rating it four out of five stars.

Mercedes SLK350 - TopGear provides a brief synopsis of the recently-redesigned SLK350, detailing the changes made to new model before concluding that it "remains a fine car."

Mercedes R280 CDI - Drive.com.au spends some time behind the wheel of the new R-Class, praising its "spacious" and "quiet" interior as well as its ample luggage space, while criticism came as a result of the R's "clumsy seat-folding system" and "dowdy looks."  In the end, the model earned three out of five stars.

Mercedes CLS-Class - Drive.com.au offers a used car review of the CLS range, noting that its styling remains "beautiful" and that its "V8 engine is smooth and powerful."  Ultimately, the model earns four-and-a-half out of five stars.

Mercedes SL63 AMG - Just when you thought we'd brought all the new Mercedes SL reviews you could handle, Channel 4 provides another look at the V8 AMG variant of the range.  Reviewers praised the model's "great automatic gearbox, endless supply of torque" and "surprisingly compliant ride" before rating it four out of five stars.

Mercedes SL-Class - Last but not least, the final review of the day is another of the new SL courtesy of Drive.com.au, who provide a rather lengthy look at the roadster's changes while taking time to praise both its power and steering enhancements.

And before we go, a special thanks to Shiv, Brad and John, all of whom were gracious enough to send us the various reviews posted above. To the three of you, we are humbly in your gratitude.
