The Mercedes-Benz E-Class/SLR McLaren
Posted on April 19, 2006 at 9:20 AM CST

Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG and E 55 AMG both powered by the Mercedes SLR McLaren engine

When speaking of custom Mercedes, few can compare to the much-famed SLK pictured above.  Powered by the awe-inspiring SLR powerplant, Emirati rally driver Mohammed Ben Sulayem has created one of the fastest Mercedes in the world (here's a video of the SLK challenging a Ferrari Enzo).

Not content with one SLR engine transplant, Mohammed and his crack team of mechanics are at it again, this time transforming a Mercedes E 55 AMG into what's sure to become one of the world's fastest luxury sedans.  According to the boys over at Jalopnik, the transmission was modified to take 922 ft-lbs of torque, the limited-slip diff was reworked and the SLR’s stock intercooler system was modified.  In other words, it's the ultimate sleeper.

For the complete story and a photo under the hood, head over to Jalopnik to learn more.
