DaimlerChrysler Aims To Expand Sales In India
Posted on April 17, 2006 at 9:20 AM CST

DaimlerChrysler LogoWelcome back everyone - I hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing weekend.

To kick things off this bright April morning, MSN Money has published an article taking a look at the luxury car market in India. According to the article, DaimlerChrysler sees the country emerging as a major buyer of luxury cars in the coming years, and aims to increase their market share in the region as the economony expands.

In a recent interview, Wilfried Aulbur, CEO of DaimlerChrysler India, had this to say on the topic:  "India will emerge as a very important market for us and will see the complete Mercedes portfolio of cars being launched."  Aulbur went on to state that "the economic success that India has achieved and the dramatic rise in the number of young, successful information technology professionals will ensure strong sales for Mercedes cars."

On average, DaimlerChrysler's sales in India have grown 16% over the past five years. This fact has caused other auto manufacturers to take notice - currently both BMW and Audi have plans or are considering entering the Indian market.

So what's next for DaimlerChrysler?  In addition to expanding the Mercedes lineup, the company also plans to introduce its Actros line of heavy-duty trucks to the region.  DC is aiming to sell around 850 trucks a year in India, adding to the 80,000 Actors units they sold globally last year.

For more info, you can check out the full article over at MSN Money.
